Trial is the culmination of a civil lawsuit, where evidence is presented and a decision made by either a jury or a judge (i.e., a “bench trial”). In this class, an experienced trial judge will provide basic rules, strategy and tips about how to present evidence and handle your own trial in a California state court.

Class covers:

• Presenting testimony from friendly witnesses
• Cross-examining unfriendly witnesses
• Getting documents admitted into evidence
• How to stop improper evidence by making effective objections
• Making opening and closing arguments

Class approved for Court Interpreter Minimum Continuing Education (CIMCE) credit.

What happens if a party refuses to, or can’t, pay a civil judgment? In this class, learn about the procedures and methods involved in getting paid on a money judgment in California, and the legal protections available to those who have had a judgment entered against them. 

Class covers:

• Typical steps to enforcing a judgment (getting paid)
• Characteristics of different enforcement tools, including liens, levies and more
• When different methods of enforcement may be appropriate
• Exemptions and other legal protections for judgment debtors who can’t afford to pay

En California, las personas con discapacidades intelectuales y del desarrollo (I/DD) diagnosticadas antes de cumplir 18 años tiene derecho, según la ley Lanterman, a servicios financiados por los gobiernos estatal y federal a través de centros regionales. Si se niegan los servicios regionales, las personas con discapacidades intelectuales y del desarrollo (I/DD) también tienen derecho a acceder a una audiencia justa ante un juez administrativo para apelar las decisiones tomadas por los centros regionales.

Este programa comienza con una sesión informativa sobre los servicios y la elegibilidad del centro regional, seguida de una sesión de asesoramiento individual con un abogado de derechos de las personas con discapacidad para discutir temas como la denegación de elegibilidad o servicios de un centro regional.

La clase cubre:

• Derechos de las personas con discapacidades del desarrollo en California
• Descripción general del sistema de centros regionales de California para personas con discapacidades del desarrollo
• Derechos de la persona con discapacidad del desarrollo y responsabilidades del centro regional
