1 Hour of Legal Ethics MCLE Credit

Class covers:

• The attorney's oath; How to Figure out for oneself what that means to us, while guided by professional rules of conduct and court cases.How to navigate tension when lawyers believe that supporting the constitution is at odds with a government's actions or policies
• We’ll review historical context and examples of lawyers fighting to uphold the constitution and rule of law during democratic backsliding including a discussion of McCarthy times / civil rights era / antiwar protests
• Bar rules on competency 1.2.1, 1.1 when there may not be a "right" answer when providing legal counsel
• Address the role of non-legal advocates (paraprofessionals, librarians, teachers, clergy, therapists, social workers, community organizers, etc.) and how they help fill the current justice gap
