Do you need to help a disabled adult who is having difficulty managing their daily living activities and self-care? There are many ways to try to help. Understanding the legal tools and options available is the first step in finding the best way to help.
Class covers:
- Legal tools to help if the disabled person understands they need and want assistance in managing their self-care
- An overview of probate conservatorships if capacity is a concern
- Explaining the court process to be appointed as a conservator
- What to expect before the hearing on appointment of a conservator
- What to expect if you are appointed as conservator and your responsibilities
- Rights of the conserved disabled adult
- Exploring recent changes in California law and Supported Decision Making Agreements as options to consider
No advance registration or phone appointment is necessary. Space is limited. Attendees admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Check-in begins at 8:45 a.m.

To kick off Pro Bono Week 2026, in partnership with ALIGHT and the National Survivor Law Collective (NSLC), LA County Law Library is offering the first in-person Human Trafficking Survivors Credit Repair Clinic.
Survivors of human trafficking can now file for credit repair under the Debt Bondage Repair Act (DBRA)! ALIGHT is working with attorneys to assist survivors in addressing the lasting impacts of financial abuse.
What does Credit Repair do?
- Block prior evictions, late rental payments, credit card or loan defaults, account openings and closings and unpaid bills that went to a collection agency from credit reports.
- Improve credit score
- Strengthen relationships with creditors, employers and landlords.
Credit repair does not mean terminating the root debt or loan forgiveness.

Eligibility: Survivors of human trafficking must:
- Have a connection to Greater Los Angeles.
- Be ready to work with an attorney.
- Be in financial need of free legal assistance.
- Be working with a case manager or program advocate who can support and coordinate with the attorney throughout the legal process.
Prior to the clinic, have these documents with you:
- Proof of Identity
- Proof of Current Address
- Copy of Most Recent Credit Reports from Equifax, Experian, and Transunion (any available)

At this clinic, attendees seeking assistance with answering an unlawful detainer (eviction) complaint will be guided through the Tenant Power Toolkit (www.tenantpowertoolkit.org) to complete the necessary court forms.
Participants must bring their Summons and Complaint-Unlawful Detainer to the workshop.
This workshop covers:
- How to use the Tenant Power Toolkit
- How to identify defenses against the eviction and complete responsive pleadings
- How to request a fee waiver
- How to use the Tenant Power Toolkit to find legal support
The Eviction Answer Tool will work for tenants who live anywhere in California who have been served a Summons and Complaint-Unlawful Detainer. Tenants in LA County (if they qualify for a fee waiver and are within their filing deadline) will get the option to have their documents be filed electronically with the court. All other tenants will have to file the documents the Toolkit creates in person, at the courthouse listed on your Summons and Complaint.
