ON DEMAND: Tackling Legal Reference Requests with Resources from LA Law Library

Class recorded August 17, 2023

Designed for public librarians, this class is the first of a two-part series intended to provide you with a basic skillset to address legal questions at a public library reference desk. Together with the second video in this series, Legal Research on the Internet, you will learn about an array of free and authoritative legal information to assist your patrons. The focus of this video is the legal reference interview, LA Law Library’s educational and public interest programming, and an overview of resources your users can access for free from LA Law Library’s site, including Nolo Press’s legal self-help guides on the EBSCO Legal Information Reference Center (LIRC). To help you put your new skills into use, you will also be guided through two hypothetical reference interactions.
