Book Discussion: Thirsty: William Mulholland, California Water & the Real Chinatown

Tuesday March 27, 2018
6:30 – 8:00 pm

MEET THE AUTHOR and join the discussion of a topic dear to all Angelenos – WATER!

Thirsty: William Mulholland, California Water and the Real Chinatown, by Marc Weingarten is an exploration of Los Angeles' history and fraught relationship with water. William Mulholland and Frederick Eaton, who was mayor of Los Angeles from 1898 – 1900, shared a vision of a much larger Los Angeles. The limiting factor to growth was its water supply. Starting in 1907, Mulholland oversaw the building of the Los Angeles Aqueduct to bring water from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles. Author Weingarten tells the gripping true story of L.A,'s epic battles for water, the larger-than-life characters who shaped the city's destiny and the man-made tragedy that killed over 400 people and forever changed the way water would be harnessed and delivered.
