MCLE: Litigation Strategies for Protecting Captive Wildlife

Lawyers who wish to help address the plight of wild animals kept captive in unhealthy conditions have a number of legal tools available – but they also face numerous obstacles. In this class, attorneys from the Animal Legal Defense Fund will discuss the laws that protect captive wildlife, and the best litigation strategies for enforcing these protections.

Class covers:

  • Legal protections for captive wildlife, including the Endangered Species Act (ESA)
  • Who may bring suit to protect captive wildlife
  • How to establish standing in federal suits under the ESA
  • What litigation can accomplish in the fight to protect captive wildlife

Presented by Animal Legal Defense Fund attorney, Lindsay Larris:
Lindsay Larris directs Animal Legal Defense Fund operations and resources in Southern California. Prior to working at Animal Legal Defense Fund, Lindsay spent seven years practicing civil litigation in the Los Angeles area. While in private practice at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, Lindsay also litigated animal rights matters on a pro bono basis. She graduated from University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2007, where she co-founded the Journal of Animal Law and Ethics.
