Civil Rights: An Overview

Federal civil rights protections are the basis for many important freedoms in our society. However, few people understand what civil rights laws are and how they work. This class will help you understand the basic civil rights statute 28 U.S.C. § 1983, its constitutional guarantees against abuses by government agencies, how to identify if your rights may have been violated and the potential claims to address the violation.

Presented by Tiaunia Bedell and Jennifer Rho:
Tiaunia Bedell is an associate in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Los Angeles office where she is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department with a practice that focuses primarily on antitrust, breach of contract and transnational cases. She has represented clients in various industries including the medical device, media and entertainment, semiconductor, oil and gas, paper manufacturing and technology conducting industries.

Jennifer Rho is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She practices in the firm’s Litigation Department and Intellectual Property Group, focusing on representing clients in patent licensing and litigation matters involving consumer electronics, communications, defense, medical device, video game, and social networking technologies. She has litigated significant patent infringement cases in federal courts across the United States.
