The Other Bar Presents: Substance Abuse Prevention, Detection & Treatment

As part of the LA Law Library’s MCLE lunch hour speaker series, this class will teach participants how to define alcoholism and addiction to other drugs, the effects that alcohol and illicit and prescription drugs have on brain chemistry, how to recognize use and abuse of these substances and what should be done to bring about change and protect professional careers as well as the integrity of the legal profession. The presenter will rely upon his own personal journey and experience to highlight the role that The Other Bar can play in the recovery process.

Presented by Greg Dorst
Greg Dorst earned his J.D. from the University of La Verne College of Law and began practice in 1983. Greg worked as a trial lawyer for the San Bernardino County Office of the District Attorney and as a private practitioner specializing in criminal defense and real estate litigation. In July of 1997, he stopped practicing law and began a new chapter in his life, becoming a Certified Addiction Specialist with a career in the field of mental health and addiction. In 2004, Greg was selected to consult for The Other Bar, working with attorneys, judges and law students in need of help with substance abuse issues and mental health needs. In 2009, Greg became the CEO of Cedar House Life Change Center and presided over its expansion on the way to becoming southern California’s premier Co-Occurring Treatment Facility. Greg currently works as the Spiritual Director and Sr. Pastor of the Claremont Center for Spiritual Living, a non-denominational church and educational center.
